- Poor Man's Guide to Wind Power and Battery Systems (http://pesnetwork.rclewis02.hop.clickbank.net/) - Downloadable book tells you how to make a 1 kilowatt machine using off-the shelf scraps for only $150, including the tower. Tells how to find and refurbish batteries for free; and how to source a good generator.

Companies
- AeroVironment (http://www.avinc.com/wind.asp) - AV developed a small, modular wind turbine Architectural Wind™ system designed for installation on buildings in urban and suburban areas. By eliminating the support tower, reducing noise and vibration, and creating a sleek and adaptable, modular housing that installs quickly and easily onto buildings, without penetrating the roof, AV defines a new category of wind energy systems that adds value to buildings and demonstrates clean energy at work.

- MotorWind's Pastic Micro Wind Turbines for Sale - Two of the biggest hurdles for using wind power have been cost and the need for strong winds. A Hong Kong businessman/inventor has found a way to overcome those problems with plastic, bringing the generation cost down to around 1 cent per kilowatt-hour.
- Stormblade Turbine (http://www.stormbladeturbine.com/) - Can convert up to 70% of wind power into electricity with operational wind speed 7mph to >120mph, double the current averages. It produces less drag, can operate at extreme wind speeds, produces more power per rotation, needs less maintenance, is smaller in size, is wildlife friendly, produces less noise. - Krystal Planet > Krystal Planet Markets Available Renewable Energy Devices (http://pesn.com/2007/03/25/9500465_Krystal-Planet/) - Company network presently sells wind, solar, biodiesel and energy conservation products for residential and commercial applications, at competitive price points, with financing available. (PESN; March 25, 2007)
- Venturiwind Turbine (http://www.venturiwind.com/) - Wind tunnel measurements at a Dutch university have shown that a three blade Venturi turbine has a measured efficiency of 85%, which is 40% better than the theoretical maximum efficiency 59% (Betz law). Advantages: high output in low wind, soundless, highly reliable, cost effective and attractive. See also Aerolift Patent (http://www.aeroliftpatent.com/)
- Humpback flipper may be the key to better wind turbines - WhalePower Corp features a blade design that mimics the aerodynamically efficient design of a humpback whale’s flipper, allowing a turbine to capture more of the wind's energy, and at much lower speeds.
- enflo systems ag (http://www.enflo-systems.com/englisch/index_e.html) - The power increase compared to a free-running propeller, results from the airfoil diffuser accelerating wind flow through the rotor. There is only a small gap between rotor and the diffuser, so that wind cannot ‘escape’ the rotor, hence increasing its effective area. Efficiency is 83% compared to 29% for a free running propeller.
- O'Conner Hush Energy Turbine - Arthur O'Conner of Australia has international patents on a wind turbine design that is very quiet, can operate at low speeds while tolerating high wind speeds, with a price tag that makes energy generation comparable to grid energy cost for residential and commercial applications.
- Mixer/Ejector Wind Turbine to produce 50% more power! (http://www.ecofriend.org/entry/mixerejector-wind-turbine-to-produce-50-more-power/) - The FloDesign (http://www.flodesignwindturbine.org/) MEWT is claimed to produce 50% more power in comparison to conventional wind turbines, yet it is 50% smaller in size and would cost 25% to 35% less. Using cambered ringed airfoils or shrouds in a stator-rotor turbine cascade design, it has the potential to deliver power at 25% to 50% of the cost for a 3 bladed turbine. (EcoFriend; Feb. 1, 2008)
- Roof-top affordable clean energy (http://www.renewableenergyaccess.com/rea/news/story;jsessionid=00FD7336F0B800B3E0ADFC5FBF28177C?id=51251) - Marquiss Wind Power (http://www.marquisswindpower.com/) manufactures roof-top ducted wind turbines that accelerate the wind speed to increase power output, for commercial buildings. Payback ranges from 2 to 7 years, and the systems tie into the utility grid. (Renewable Energy Access; Jan. 28, 2008)
- Selsam (http://www.selsam.com/) - Combines the power of multiple smaller rotors mounted to a single elongate driveshaft, to give the same power as a single larger rotor, with less cost, weight, and complexity. Smaller rotors weigh less for the swept area, and turn faster, thereby dispensing of the need for a gearbox. Design is naturally self-aiming, and requires less maintenance.
- ENECO (http://www.warp-eneco.com/) - WARP : Wind Amplified Rotor Platform speeds up the wind with a velocity amplification factor (VAF) in excess of 1.5 over free wind, resulting in a 450% increase in power. A WARP wind farm would need on average about 1/4 less land per kilowatt of energy generated. Projected cost $.02 to $.04/kWh or lower.
- Loopwing Wind Turbine (http://www.metaefficient.com/archives/renewable-power/loopwing-wind-turbine-at-japanese-tradeshow.html) - The Loopwing (http://www.loopwing.co.jp/en/top.html) turbine is a low-noise, low-vibration, self-stabilizing device designed for quiet home use that requires only a 1.6 m/s breeze to get started. It generates twice the torque of conventional turbines at half the rotation speed. The blade shape restrains noise causing tip vortex. (Metaefficient)
- Wind Energy Group (http://www.windenergygroupinc.com/) - The WEGI-100 offers a variety of advantages over conventional wind generating systems. It is a low rpm, Bi-directional system. Horizontal blades and air baffles maximize the amount of wind velocity directed into the turbine allowing the system to capture more wind. The system can also operate under extremely high wind conditions.
- The Aerotecture Interational Architectural Wind Project (http://www.aerotecture.com/projects_mlh.html) Offers an approach similar to Motorwind, with increased energy output.
- The piezoelectric windmill project
- The Swift home wind turbine (http://www.renewabledevices.com/swift/index.htm) The Swift project promises to be a low-noise/safe roof-mount/low-cost alternative

In the News
- Attey Rooftop Wind Turbine (http://abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/06/27/1963676.htm?section=business) - Graeme Attey of Fremantle, West Australia, designed a modular wind turbine small enough to sit on a the roof of house. Backed by the government, the unit is expected to be released to the market next year, complete with a rebate. (ABC News; June 27, 2007)
- Shrouded in near-silence (http://www.theengineer.co.uk/Articles/294728/Shrouded%20in%20near-silence.htm) - A new design of wind turbine called the Stormblade could provide significantly better power output than existing mills, while reducing noise and maintenance. The blades are surrounded by a shroud that channels the airflow onto the turbine, with efficiency up to three times higher than a traditional three-bladed mill. (The Engineer Online; June 05, 2006)
- Stormblade: the first quiet residential wind turbine (http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/01/stormblade_the.php) - Besides being bird and bat friendly, the Stormblade (http://www.stormbladeturbine.com/) design is very quiet. It has fewer parts and higher generating capacity than other models and can theoretically, operate at any wind speed; and can convert up to 70 per cent of wind power into electricity, double the current average. (TreeHugger; Jan. 2, 2007)
