Automated test bench for developing MPI modules.

Magnetic Power Inc. Company claims to be close enough to have some demo devices, which extract energy from the vacuum of space. Claims have never been realized since initial public statements over five years ago. Formerly named "Magnetic Power Modules(tm)", as of July, 2007, the units are now called "GENIE" (Generating Electricity by Nondestructive Interference of Energy).

The company is still awaiting adequate additional funding to develop these modules properly.

As of the Summer of 2007, Mark Goldes claims to have achieved several over-unity protypes, and hopes to have commercial 1 kW units ready by the end of 2008. The company claims that those with an EE background and with an open mind will agree that the concept (disclosed under NDA) is workable.

For those who do not have access to proprietary photos, videos, and other evidence due to the proprietary nature of this technology, confidence is borrowed from CEO, Mark Goldes' reputation with Ultraconductors, a known and proven technology.

A complaint was filed against the company on June 14, 2008.

Abstract
A solid-state electrical generator including at least one permanent magnet, magnetically coupled to a ferromagnetic core provided with at least one hole penetrating its volume; the hole(s) and magnet(s) being placed such that the hole(s) penetrating the ferromagnetic core's volume intercept flux from the permanent magnet(s) coupled into the ferromagnetic core. A first wire coil is wound around the ferromagnetic core for the purpose of moving the coupled permanent magnet flux within the ferromagnetic core. A second wire is routed through the hole(s) penetrating the volume of the ferromagnetic core, for the purpose of intercepting this moving magnetic flux, thereby inducing an output electromotive force. A changing voltage applied to the first wire coil causes coupled permanent magnet flux to move within the core relative to the hole(s) penetrating the core volume, thus inducing electromotive force along wire(s) passing through the hole(s) in the ferromagnetic core. The mechanical action of an electrical generator is thereby synthesized without use of moving parts.

Self-Evaluation

On June 9, 2006, Mark Goldes, CEO of MPI, provided the following self-evaluation of the MPI technology according to the criteria set forth by the New Energy Congress. Numeric scoring will follow at a later date.

I. Renewable Yes

II. Environmental Impact Minimal

III. Cost (cents / kw-h) Estimated to be less than 1c/kwh for mass produced generators

IV. Credibility of Evidence Will be submitted for evaluation by EarthTech within the next couple of months. The Florida lab has been visited by three [scientifically trained individuals] in the last few weeks. The first two were utility power people. The most recent was a Ph.D. physicist. All were positive in their evaluations. The Washington State lab has been visited by a NASA scientist working as a private consultant. It was also visited by two experts in utility power. Again, the reactions were positive.

V. Stability / Reliability Expected to be high

VI. Implementation Primarily by licensees worldwide. The Company expects to do pilot plant production, possibly with joint venture partners.

VII. Safety/Danger to Persons Not fully known as yet, but expected to prove less dangerous than existing power sources

VIII. Politics of science The possibility of human life ending by about 2050, in the absence of revolutionary power sources, makes acceptance more likely as the facts and the danger become known. A political analog to a phase change is possible.

IX. Open-Source conducive Reproduction of the machine patented by Gary in 1874 is a good beginning for proving the science. Numerous expired patents since may reflect little noticed potential for working machines. Our own work is proprietary and will be licensed to manufacturers.

X. Stage of Device Development Over Unity prototypes exist but are not quite ready for independent evaluation. However, that should take place relatively soon at EarthTech. Self-sustaining devices will follow. How fast will depend on the availability of necessary funds. If major funding allows four teams of engineers and technicians to provide 24/7 project development, the speed of commercialization could prove surprisingly rapid.

History

On July 19, 2007, Goldes wrote:

All of my predictions [of company milestone achievements] are and were based on the assumption of adequate capital. In spite of written commitments by several parties, that [new capital] has not yet materialized. They never received the promised funds, which they anticipated - and therefore could not honor their written agreements. However, there is so much interest at this time, that very substantial funding does not seem far in the future.

Since 1984 when MPI began, we have raised in excess of $8 million in Angel funding. $5 million of that total was for the work with our Ultraconductors(tm). In addition, we have also completed four Small Business Innovation Research contracts with the government on these polymer equivalents of a room temperature superconductor.

When the dot.com crash occurred, Angel and VC funding suddenly stopped. High-tech firms, not yet producing revenue, were unable to obtain funding and many fine firms disappeared as a result. The miracle is that we are still here and growing.

Optimism is a fundamental requirement and always a potential failing of entrepreneurs. I certainly have been overly optimistic at times. However, had that not been the case, we would no longer be in business.

I have never been and am not now, interested in "quick money".

I began the search for alternatives to oil with the non-profit Aesop Institute in 1973. It has spawned MPI as well as the previous firm, SunWind Ltd., which created the Windmobile. That freeway capable, wind-electric powered vehicle was the cover story for Popular Science in November of 1976. SunWind ran dry in 1983. Only young people liked the idea of driving down the freeway in a vehicle that looked more like a jet airplane. Folks with funds wanted something that looked more conventional.

The following year, the late Dr. Robert Forward, then a physicist at Hughes Aircraft, published a paper in Physical Review B, a refereed physics journal, suggesting we could get electricity from Zero Point Energy. Shortly afterwards, an inventor contacted me, claiming he could build a magnetic device that would provide electricity without fuel or conventional input. MPI began by providing him with some modest support. He demonstrated an OU device to me some months later. Unfortunately, he was unable to reproduce it and it could not be patented or commercialized. His name was Floyd "Sparky" Sweet. Although he has passed on, his invention continues to intrigue.

From 1984 until about four years ago, MPI evaluated dozens of claims of OU. We found most to be inventor's delusion. Few understand the complexities of accurate measurement. A handful were simply fraud. Our primary work centered on our Ultraconductors.

Then we met members of our present technical team. They were and remain among the finest engineers and technicians (also a former professor of physics) it has ever been my good fortune to meet.

I have been interested in keeping this work alive for many reasons, not the least of which is that a huge number of lives may depend on its success. I hope and continue to believe it will one day bring an excellent financial return to the lenders and investors who have been able and willing to keep this urgent program afloat.

Now it is time to accelerate the work.

I was once a Senior Director of the USAF/NATO radar station that controlled the Berlin Corridor. Radar stations operate 24/7. With enough capital, MPI can do the same. That will allow us to bring GENIE into the market as rapidly as is humanly possible.

NEC Evaluation

According to the Top 100 Energy Technology reports (http://www.pureenergysystems.com/NEC/reports/top100/) issued by NEC:

  • On June 1 and May 1, 2006, the NEC tally for MPI's module technology came to 4.2, placing it closer to "Top 20" than "Top 50".

Ken Rauen

Kenneth M. Rauen, Science Advisor for PES Network Inc. (http://www.pureenergysystems.com/about/personnel/KennethMRauen/), and New Energy Congress founding member, issued the following statement on Dec. 5, 2005.

"I am close to Mark Goldes and MPI. Several years ago, an Ultraconductor sample was loaned to me on consignment. Even though I could not verify superconductivity, it was a dead short at room temperature, and by its visual construction, it should have been an insulator. He has disclosed to me proprietary information regarding magnetic motors; all I can say is that there is experimental evidence for them, the best I have ever seen for a magnetic motor."
