Mass Tram America, Inc

  • Established in 2005, is a privately-held corporation located in Milwaukie, Oregon. The President, Ben Missler, has been working on the concept and details of the Mass Tram America. Just recently Mr. Missler started putting together his team of engineers, writers, designers and office personnel.

The Mass Tram America project is a vision for the future: of our public transportation, freight transportation, emergency response systems, and America ’s ability to adapt to changing times. This elevated network of state-of-the-art technologies, materials, and procedures come together to create the very first system of its kind. Transportation of this magnitude has never fully operated on renewable resources; the Mass Tram America does. Transportation has never simultaneously answered the problems presented by the rising cost of fuel, congested roadways, large amounts of land occupancy, and damage from natural disasters; the Mass Tram America does.

All technologies used to create the Mass Tram America, although groundbreaking, are not new. These technologies are all being used today, and tested further to improve resources for a sustainable future. Wind power has been fostered for years; solar power technology is continuing to grow and has been utilized for many years to provide electricity to millions. Fuel cells, another technology employed by the Mass Tram America system, have been used for 35 years in space exploration. Motors using regenerative breaking are currently being manufactured in the United States and these companies are seeing large orders from overseas. In order to save our transportation systems, our economy, our position in world technologies, our environment, and our future; the United States must employ something both practical and groundbreaking.

A project of this magnitude will create an abundance of well-paying American jobs. Just as the highway bill enacted by President Eisenhower in 1956 gave a jump start to the United States ‘ economy, the Mass Tram America project will stimulate today’s economy. Our nation will be positively affected by reducing purchase of foreign oil, a dramatic rise in high-paying jobs, and the lower cost of personal and freight transportation. This reduction in transportation costs will positively affect everything from groceries to the cost of building materials.

Mass Tram America, Inc. proposes a plan for public and freight transportation that offers solutions to our nation’s largest transportation dilemmas. Soon fossil fuels will be scarce. The reaction to a crisis such as this has begun, but must be examined on a much larger scale in order to truly make a difference. The paradigm shift from oil consumption to the use of renewable energy must begin now.

Mission Statement

Mass Tram America, Inc. paves the way for new paths of travel in the sky. We are dedicated to making inter-state and cross country travel affordable, convenient, and environmentally sustainable. With room to carry cars as well as people, we cater to users of both public transportation and private automobile. The “Highway in the Sky is 100% pollution-free and occupies little of our Earth’s surface.

This project uses renewable energy and reduces dependence on nuclear and fossil fuels. Adapting to the existing infrastructure, Mass Tram utilizes current technologies and routes of transportation. With each car moving independently “above the fray, it is unaffected by traffic, congestion, and city layout. It is also highly resistant to natural disasters and terrorist activities. It can be built and operated for a fraction of current and proposed transportation system costs. Thus, keeping the costs low for passengers, investors, and taxpayers, and creating an abundance of high-paying American jobs. Returns on the initial investment are projected to sustain the system without government assistance or taxpayer funding.

As our highways become more crowded, the cost of fuel rises, and our land becomes more precious, any new form of public transportation must address these dilemmas. Mass Tram America is a well-designed, cost-effective, and innovative solution to our current transportation issues.

Benefits Of The Mass Tram

Powered by renewable energy sources, it is 100% pollution free, self-sufficient and highly resistant to power failure, fire, flood and weather conditions. Solar cells generally come with a 20+ year warranty, making system maintenance minimal and infrequent.

With redundant safety systems, using space-age technology as a model, Mass Tram presents a safe, efficient means of travel. Every unit operates independently of the system, and is fixed to a track with a specific route, making danger of terrorist activity low compared to our current aviation system. Thousands of American jobs will be created to revamp aircrafts, purchase and install solar equipment, wind turbines and equipment, erect the rail system, and to engineer system design. Customer service jobs will be created to serve passengers. Parking attendants, retail shop owners, managers and employees, security, agents, and many more positions will be created. De-commissioned Boeing airliners can be purchased reasonably (see cost analysis); the system will quickly pay for itself. Surplus solar and wind-generated electricity can be sold back to the respective power companies, generating yet more income for Mass Tram America and helping our nation reach renewable energy goals. The Mass Tram can be built quickly. It could be operational within a few years. Mass Tram America travels at speeds of 100-200 mph, significantly decreasing travel time. Emergency response in remote locations can be implemented using Mass Tram lines. The low cost of running the system translates into low fares for passengers. This would lure more people away from reliance on automobiles, whether commuting to work or traveling across the country. However, passengers will have the option of bringin their cars with them when using Mass Tram, for transport when they arrive at their destinations. The estimated cost of building the Mass Tram system is far lower than current transportation systems.

This system is the solution to America ’s troubled highway system in so many ways: traffic fatalities, rising gas prices, road construction and weather conditions will not burden its passengers.

How It Works

  • The actual Tram car is constructed from de-commissioned Boeing 727’s, 737’s, and 757’s that are stripped of their wings, engines, and tails.
  • The fuselages become compartments equipped with solar cells and battery storage.
  • These compartments are attached to a rail system by permanent magnet regenerative motorized wheels.
  • Power is provided through solar electricity, wind power, regenerative breaking and fuel cells.
  • The system of single rails is hung from suspension cables, made level with support cables.
  • This system can be adapted to current road construction. When crossing a river, for example, the rail can be suspended from an existing bridge, minimizing construction and cost.
  • Structural steel or reinforced concrete towers are erected as high as needed, and multi-strand stainless steel cables are strung between towers.
  • Towers to support the rail system are erected approximately every 1000 feet and fitted with solar panels, wind turbines, or a combination of both.
  • Transfer stations are set up where necessary, allowing passengers to disembark or transfer to another tram. They also contain extra backup power for tram cars, as well as parking, concessions, and other passenger services.
  • All of the Tram’s components utilize off-the-shelf technology. All of the mechanisms needed to make “The Highway in the Skyâ€? a reality are in use today.
