Old egroup replications of the CD Motor
As prepared by Tim Harwood, March, 2006.
Anonymous Motor
This was the first oscilloscope shot taken. While the commutation was transistor based, the back-emf was stil clearly 80% of input, and the motor and circuitry reportedly ran stone cold. The experimenter was somewhat shocked by his results. The scope shot proved the back-emf of properly constructed Adams motors has a genuine current component i.e. it not just a voltage spike.
Brian's Replication
Brain's motor used bolts and 555 circuitry. It ran quite nicely once the pulse width was adjusted down.
Adeonkonade Replication
This motor exhibited a genuine temperature drop in operation - as validated by a digital temperature probe. 24 awg wire at about 3 ohms. Thanks go to Adeonkonade for that work.
General comments
The replications that worked best tended to be the ones that followed the instructions.
The effect occurs within a relatively narrow rotor / stator geometry window.
