Not Top 100
On July 20, 2009, New Energy Congress member, Richard P. George, Ph.D. wrote:
All [d.Blue] does is make the module pretty. These modules have average power density and efficiency. They use generic polycrystalline cells. This is not a top 100 technology.
An Industry Pioneer and Pillar
On July 20, 2009, NEC founder, Sterling D. Allan replied:
Kyocera is a solar pioneer and industry leader, and should be honored as such. They might not be on the cutting-edge of solar efficiency (found in solar areas like thermal, concentrated, or thin film, or other energy genre outside of solar), but since solar is in the mainstream consciousness and acceptance (thanks to pioneers like Kyocera), Kyocera is in a demonstrated position to make a large difference in moving the planet toward clean renewables. So while they might not merit lead position within the Top 100, I think they should at least be on the list due to their actual impact.
Sunpower and Sanyo rate higher
On July 20, 2009, New Energy Congress member, Richard P. George, Ph.D. responded:
If this top 100, then both Sunpower and Sanyo modules should be higher rated than Kyocera, as should over a dozen commodity manufacturers of monocrystalline modules who have 100 to 500+ ME integrated wafer / cell / module capacity...
